London 2012 Olympic Park Construction Site

Anthony Adams: I was on the black, on the dole for a long time, a long time unemployed, and basically I had no prospects and no future, just basically signing on. By going to Train to Gain and getting access courses for the qualifications that I needed to get onto the building site I’ve got more of a bright future.

I am a labourer, but basically now I’m a banksman. Basically just I got promoted within a week. I can actually plan for the future and it makes me look more to the future and looking for a better life. I would definitely recommend this path to anyone who’s on Social Security benefits with no future.

Conrad Allen: We got involved with the LEP here on, um, on a site-based level through the um, Employment & Skills ODA Department. The service it offered to us, um, the opportunity to take on board local people within the local five boroughs. Um, we could take people on that’s got the right qualification, and, and, and the, the right, the right means and the understanding of our industry. The people are here locally, and the, the, the trained workforce that’s produced, um, through Eton Manor Training Centre allows us to get them onto site.

My fears were, initially was, um, getting the right type of candidates. The benefit of Anthony, he’s a local man, he, he lives local, um, he’s been trained local, he will, he will work local, um, and the, the uh benefits for, for our company is that he’s trained to the right degree and qualification uh, that we need.
