Sainsburys

Andrew Richardson: Before I started with Sainsbury’s I was doing a lot of uh, agency working where I was at uh, factories, warehouses, so just dead end jobs doing nothing. Uh, Sainsbury’s have their own online application system which they’ve just set up, so they took me in, put me on the internet and I applied for all through Sainsbury’s online. There’s a lot of opportunities available to me because of this apprenticeship scheme that I came on. Uh, I’ve, as I was saying, I’ve only been with the company two year and I’m now starting in a management route, so I’ve got a lot of prospects ahead of me so I’ve just got to keep pushing for them.

Definitely recommend this, it’s changed my life more than I could dream of changing it any other, any other way. I’ve started from nothing, I’m now on the verge of being a manager in the bakery, and the possibility to go further.

Paul Mackintosh: We got involved in the LEP apprenticeship scheme through the Staff Support Centre in Head Office uh, in Holburn, and uh they have a team of specialised people who give support and advice to any of the people involved in this sort of set up. It, it, it’s helped Andy as a person. His uh, his personal life is a lot better, his um, his work life is a lot better, and we’ve seen a big difference in the way that he goes about himself. He’s so full of confidence.

The benefits of having the employee in the company is purely and simply uh, we now have a skilled baker, we’ve got a qualified person, he’s a mentor to others. He’s currently at the moment mentoring one of the girls who’s going through her intermediate skills level, he’s doing a very good job on that and uh, as I say, long term for the business it’s got to be good.
