Whitbread
Marian: Well Whitbread uh, were delighted to be among the first companies to sign up to the Government’s Skills Pledge way back in June ’07. We saw this a very public statement about our commitment to the development of our workforce. We’ve already seen an uptake in the number of apprentices in our programme, and as a direct result of signing the Skills Pledge we’ll be moving forward in the future with a fully integrated induction programme which will be fully mapped into our apprenticeship programme.
Whitbread also plan to introduce the Skills for Life programme, which will give all our employees the opportunity to improve their numeracy and literacy and their English skills.
Karen: I did an NVQ which was Level 3, um, Management Supervision, and obviously I’ve done my in-house training as well with the General Manager.
I think my training that I had was absolutely second to none. Um, NVQ has helped me completely. With the Management Supervision on the Level 3 you have to look at each area of the, of the business, um, so it opens your eyes into different areas that you wouldn’t probably look at, which is quite good.
If they know that you want to grow they give you the opportunity to grow. As, as I’ve gone from Team Leader to Assistant Manager, you know, and now talking about doing a development plan for me to go to Deputy, so that’s excellent for me.
Marian: Whitbread has a close partnership with the NES, and their support and guidance has helped shape the way our programme is run. It’s our team members who have benefited the most and have shown enthusiasm and passion in completing vocational qualifications.
